神奈川歯科大学・東南アジア支援団(Kanagawa Dental College ? South East Asia Support, KDS-SAS) は、神奈川歯科大学が中心となって東南アジア地区で活動しているボランティア団体であります。本団体発足の経緯は、2004年12月26日に発生したインド
ネシア・スマトラ島沖の地震・津波のあと、被災地のひとつであるパンガー地区における救援歯科活動を行ったことに端を発しています。活動内容としては、一般歯科治療、口腔衛生指導、医科歯科共同検診に加え、日本−タイ間の文化・学術交流などを行ってきました。　2007年からは、それまでの被災地域の歯科的な援助のみでなく、フィリッピンネグロス島における口唇口蓋裂の慈善手術活動を加えた拡大支援も行ってきております。これらの活動は、本年で6年目となりますが、毎年現地の多くの方々から感謝の言葉を頂くとともに、参加されたボランティアの皆様からは、お金に代えられない多くのものを得ることができたとの感想を頂戴しております。国境を越えた、このような国際ボランティア活動の実施は、多くの皆様方の無報酬での貢献で支えられており、日本国政府からも高い評価を受けております。今後とも皆様の心と技術と時間とを、現地の人たちの笑顔を報酬として提供頂きますよう、心よりお願いする次第です。

Kanagawa Dental College Southeast Asia Support (KDC-SAS) is a volunteer organization supported by KDC. It was founded after the devastating earthquake and tsunami off the coast of Sumatra, Indonesia, on December 26th, 2004. It was started to provide emergency dental care at Phang Nga, one of the tsunami hard-hit areas. Our activities included general dental care, instruction in oral hygiene, joint medical and dental examinations, and Japan-Thailand cultural and academic exchanges.
In 2007, KDC-SAS expanded its volunteer activities to include surgery to correct orofacial defects (cleft lip and/or cleft palate) of some of the inhabitants of Negros Island, the Philippines.
It has been 6 years since our first project. These activities have provided relief to many people. At the same time, it is a great opportunity for the volunteer participants to contribute as members of the global community. The Japanese government recognizes our activities and supports us. We invite people who are interested to join us as we carry forward these valuable service activities in Southeast Asia. Working together, the world is a better place.
